I got bored last night so I decided to carve a little pumpkin Jonas ( my boyfriend )’s dad gave us. Then, I got my thinking cap on ( for those of you who dont know me, this is rare. I dont usually use my thinking cap when it comes to the history of anything ).

The history of History of the Jack-o’-lantern.

jack-o’-lantern is typically a carved pumpkin ( duh ).  It is associated with the holiday of Samhain and Halloween. It was named after the phenomenon of strange light flickering over peat bogs.

All over Ireland and Britain, there is a long tradition of carving lanterns from vegetables, particularly the turnip.

I have heard a few versions of the Jack-O’-Lantern. The version of the story that I remember, it says that Jack was getting chased by some villagers because he stole from them, when he met the Devil, who said it was his time to die. However, the thief stalled his death by tempting the Devil with a chance to bedevil the church-going villagers chasing him. Jack told the Devil to turn into a coin with which he would pay for the stolen goods (the Devil could take on any shape he wanted). When the coin/Devil disappeared, the Christian villagers would fight over who had stolen it. So, he turned himself into a coin and Jack put it in his pocket but he noticed he was next to a cross Jack had picked up in the village. Jack had closed the wallet tight and the cross stripped the Devil of his powers; and so he was trapped.

.This is my blog so I figured I can post about my real life and not just some random posts about other things I find/like on the internet.

I like in Fort Kent Maine. Not a lot happens here. There arnt even that many people here. In 2010 there were only 4,097 people in this little town I like to call home.

It wasnt always my home. Im was born in Bangor Maine and lived in the area till I turned 18 which is when I moved up north.. Way up north. Like, I can see Canada from my apartment, norther.

We have a Subway, McDonald’s, DOC’s Gas and a Shop N Save. Thats all I can think of that other towns have. We have many other little stores that are locally owned and only one hotel, which is where I work.

So, when a fire or anything like that happens here, its a big deal. Today while I was at work, my boyfriend popped in and said there was a fire in town. I could see the smoke from work but I couldnt see the building. So I went for a little walk and saw that our GM car dealership. I read some where that they believe it was an electrical fire. I guess we will know for sure once its in the town paper. ( http://www.fiddleheadfocus.com/ _
